Can it be September? I feel like this was the summer that never was. I am grateful for time spent on the beautiful SC coast with my brother and his family a few times, and for times with dear friends on the beautiful sandy beach of our own Lake Murray here in Columbia. It was the busiest summer schedule I have had in years, and I am grateful for this Labor Day holiday weekend to have the opportunity to stay put, stay home, study and prepare for the many women's conferences I have coming up in the fall, and just take a deep breath. I know Cookie and Zoey will be glad to have their mama home. Life is full of seasons, and once again my favorite one is on its way...fall.
We have some exciting new things happening here, and I want to thank you once again for allowing me to be a part of your life. Amazing Grace Notes is my blog that Jennifer got up and running for me this week...here is a little more information about it - http://dawnsmithjordan.blogspot.com - as well as my first post:
As I sat on the lake's sandy beach that is only ten minutes from my house with a good friend on Friday, it was an afternoon I desperately needed. Only a few hours in the midst of life's constant demands calling out to me. It felt good to simply sit there, she in her chair, me in mine. Our toes in the sand as we caught up, talked, shared, laughed, shed a tear or two. We talked of our children, our latest difficulties, prayer requests, answers to prayer. We spoke of the hope we are certain is found only in Christ when circumstances speak something different. Together. No one can do life alone. And so with this very first blog, I hope you and I can do the same. Share life together...the joys, the journey, the struggles, the lessons learned along the way. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says, "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up." My hope and prayer is that through these postings, the Father will use our time together to lift you up in the midst of your own life's path, and that we will both be the better for it in doing this thing called life together. Thank you for the privilege of allowing me to join you. May the Father use these brief moments to encourage you right where you are.
August at a Glance
August held 13 ministry events in it, and it feels like it just flew by! (A personal highlight of this summer has been hearing my nephew Birkes call me "Aunt Dawn" for the first time - below is a picture of us and Caroline!). Neither Jennifer nor I remember me ever having such a busy summer, though busy is necessary and we are both most grateful for the Lord's blessing and full summer calendar. It is always a joy to be back with the wonderful folks of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Florence, SC, as they have become like a 2nd church family to me over the years. What an incredible evening of worship we had at Bethel Worship Center in Camden, SC for their Women of Worth Conference as their ladies and worship band led us to the very throne of grace. Women flooded the altar at the conclusion of the service, and it was incredible to experience the presence of God as we sought Him together that night. At Celebration Women's Ministry in Ninety-Six, SC I began to sing a song I rarely sing..."I need a song for my heart, and a song for my soul..." I saw a lady in the back of the room, her head in a turban, obviously battling cancer, begin to cry. At the conclusion of our morning, she told me that song was just for her that day. I love how specific our God is, to reach us right where we are. I was grateful to be with the church family of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Aiken, SC and then enjoy a beautiful evening with the Mother-Daughter-Friend Banquet at St. David Lutheran Church in West Columbia, SC, where it was an added blessing to get to reconnect with some high school and family friends since that is my growing-up neck of the woods. I was privileged to be a part of the beautiful women's ministry of Liberty Pentecostal Church in Hemingway, SC where I got to visit with and enjoy a delicious dinner afterward with the ladies and my cousin Robin Lawrimore Lewis, who lives there. Rehoboth Baptist Church in Plum Branch, SC hosted a beautiful women's event, and it was a privilege to lead in two Sunday morning concerts at First Baptist Church Montmorenci in Aiken, SC, as well as an evening concert at Pelion Church of the Nazarene in Pelion, SC. On my way home from Pelion, I took a few minutes to drive by my old family home. It was especially fun to share my story and music for the Junior Ambassadors of Clarendon County luncheon to benefit the Miss Clarendon Scholarhip Fund (see picture below). To close out the month, I was delighted to be with the ladies of Meadowbrook Baptist Church in the beautiful low country of Lady's Island, SC, two Sunday morning concerts there, and then the final concert at First Baptist Church in Walterboro, SC joined by their wonderful choir. The last two weekends held five concerts/speaking engagements each, and I must admit I am looking forward to this long holiday weekend to not travel. Thank you to each of these churches for allowing me to come and serve as a part of your ministry.
September at a Glance
I am so thankful for a weekend at home after the whirlwind of activity during the month of August. But on September 6th things start back up again. In fact, September has a lot of women's ministry events and I'm looking forward to a little change of pace this fall. 9/6 I will be at Salem Baptist Church in Saluda, SC for a Ladies Banquet, 9/11 at First Baptist Church of Indian Trail, NC for a Women's Conference, 9/12-14 in Flat Rock, NC for Catawba Heights Baptist Church's (from Belmont, NC) annual Women's Retreat, 9/18 at Shandon Baptist Church here in Columbia, SC for a Senior Event, 9/20 at Thomas Village Baptist Church in Duffield, VA for a Women's Event, 9/21 at Colonial Heights Christian Church in Kingsport, TN for their two morning services and an afternoon movie viewing followed by a concert, 9/27 at Glen Haven Baptist Church in McDonough, GA for a women's event, 9/28 at Orr's Baptist Church in Chester, SC for their morning service, and at First Baptist Church of Chester, SC for their evening service.
I would like to introduce my precious friend Bree Boyce to all of the wonderful churches that have hosted me over the years. If you are looking for a fresh face with a powerful message AND voice, she is your girl. She was Miss SC 2011, a top 12 finalist at Miss America, she will be finishing her first book this year, telling her remarkable story of losing over 100 pounds to compete for the title she won. You may have seen her hosting The View, on Good Morning America, Entertainment Tonight or The Today Show, as prime time anchor on WACH Fox News Columbia, as well as on numerous magazine covers and feature articles. She is just getting started, and I am highly recommending her to you, your church, women's ministry, civic organization or corporate event. To contact Bree, email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
On the Home Front
As summer has ended, Hannah has begun her senior year at Clemson University (how can this be?!) and Ross has begun his freshman year at Midlands Technical College. Your prayers on their behalf are greatly appreciated. Having an 18-year-old and a 21-year-old is definitely a new season for this mama, and although I have no children at home, I am still living on my knees on their behalf. May the Lord be honored in the choices each of our children make in this schoolyear full of new opportunities to represent Him in their own worlds. I am an empty nester, but I am learning to enjoy the "new normal" of life here at home with Zoey, Cookie, my incredible music students, taking Zumba twice a week, and enjoying meeting friends to walk the Lake Murray Dam or at Saluda Shoals Park throughout the week. And of course getting a little more sushi than I used to!
Grateful to be doing life together with you,

Little Dale Tales (Stories from the home of my schedule coordinator, Jennifer Dale)
As I write this, the kids have left for their first day of school. Our oldest has started high school and our 2nd has started middle school - both at our church's classical Christian school. Our third is homeschooling 4th grade (elementary school) and we have a toddler. How did we get to this point so quickly? And how is it that summer is already over? I'm so thankful as we enter this new school year that the Lord holds everything already in His hands and knows the plans He has for us.
This morning my husband Reid and I were reading Psalm 37 together where it says: "Dwell in the land and cultivate faith-fulness." I have been very burdened with the struggles I've observed in the lives of so many young teenagers and young adults. What a great reminder and opportunity for all of us as this new school year begins! One of the ways we can really dwell in this land and cultivate faithfulness is by our involvement as teachers, parents, mentors, with the next generation! They so desperately need to know Jesus. Let's be faithful to share the Good News in our sphere of influence this school year.
