Can you believe it is May already? I must admit I am enjoying this slower time as the spring ministry season was incredibly busy. I am so thankful to have been allowed the many opportunities across SC, NC, TX, FL, & GA. I had considered picking a few to elaborate on that were really special, and then I realized that there is simply no way to do that. They are ALL such incredibleopportunities of singing and speaking for God's people and His glory alone, that I cannot choose. Suffice it to say that each event holds a very special place in my heart, and memories I will carry with me.
As I was traveling to beautiful Millers Creek, NC, last month, I got stuck in stand-still traffic on I-77 several times for no apparent reason. Very frustrating for a woman that wanted to get to her hotel room before dark to be rested and ready to lead a women's conference. The next day was also my birthday, and I was a little sad at the prospect of spending it without my family, though grateful for the ministry opportunity. When I finally turned off of the interstate and came up over a hill, there before me was one of the most beautiful sunsets that I have ever seen. Breathtaking! Right there in my car I felt as if that sunrise had been put there just for me, at that very moment, from the Lord Himself. It was such a vivid picture to me of His faithfulness always, but especially in those times when we feel "stuck" and there seems to be no real explanation for where we are. Then, out of nowhere, He gives us a glimpse of heaven itself! The view literally made me catch my breath. I was reminded that, while all of this seems like a big traffic jam on many days, He is with us, and His promises of "a future and a hope" (Jer. 29:11) are true. One moment we may feel as if we are in the stand-still traffic of this life, and in the next, we will find ourselves in the very presence of God, and we won't even remember the frustrations of this world. I will not forget that drive. And if that were not enough, the sweet pastor and pastor's wife surprised me the next day at the conclusion of the conference with a beautiful little birthday cake, and a delightful birthday lunch. That really was icing on my cake!
New Recording Project
As we continue to hear the news of the way the economy is affecting so many, I amthankful for a new opportunity that I believe the Lord has given me in the midst of these uncertain days. The last weekend of the month I will be going into the studio to record a lullaby CD project with a company called Kid Music. Take a moment to check out this Christian-based company at www.kidmusic.com. They offer many different personalized projects for children and adults. Kid Music is owned by Brian and Tracy Klecker who live and worship in Lexington, SC.
I am delighted to have been chosen to be the vocalist on their latest project, a new Christian Lullaby CD, which will be available later this year. As part of this project I will be recording both a personalized version as well as a non-personalized version of the CD. Kid Music will be providing me the non-personalized version which will be available for purchase through Jordan Ministries, hopefully by late summer. Both versions will have nine lullaby songs on them, including "A Love That Leads To You" which I originally wrote for my baby daughter Hannah in 1994 and was included on my album "Canopy." We are completely re-writing and re-mastering the song for this album so it will be a newer and updated version. The other 8 songs I will be singing for the album will be new songs written by the team at Kid Music just for this Lullaby CD.
When it seems church budgets are being cut and ministry events put on old, I am so thankful that God has brought Kid Music and me together. With this project I will be working from my home over the next 2-3 years, flexibly setting my own hours around my ministry schedule. I will be using studio equipment provided by Kid Music, to personalize the Christian Lullaby CD, recording about 3,000 of the most common names into the songs. Kid Music is also going to offer custom Lullaby CD's, so even if your child has a unique and uncommon name, we will be able to make a Lullaby CD that sings just for them!
As I was working on learning some of the songs last week, I was listening to the words, "Close your eyes and go to sleep." The next thing I knew, I had actually drifted off!! So, I can truly attest to the fact that the lullaby songs will relax both baby and mommy because it put the singer to sleep! I think this is such a unique opportunity for me to sing about the love of Jesus and the children's uniqueness as God's special creations. This is such a great gift idea for baby showers, birthdays, Mother's Days, Christmas etc. Ultimately, both Kid Music and I hope that this CD will be a blessing to children and their families!
New Web Site Design
I want to thank our wonderful web designer, Chris Carney, for doing such an incredible job in a complete overhaul of our web site. Please check out the new design at www.dawnsmithjordan.com. There are still a few kinks being worked out, but I hope you enjoy what we have so far. Also, be sure and check out the schedule, as I would love to see you should I be in your area. Just last month, while in Warner Robbins, GA, I was delighted to see some friendly faces at one of the churches that hosted me and enjoyed an unexpected visit with the Nelson family that has supported Jordan Ministries over the last several years.
On a Personal Note
Many of you have asked about my dad after his hospital stay back in February due to a bleeding ulcer and mild heart attack. I am thankful to let you know that he is able to treat his heart condition with medication, and his ulcer has healed. He is doing well, and I appreciate your concern and prayers on his behalf.
Hannah and Ross are doing well and are counting down the days until summer vacation. We have had some excitement in our family recently as Hannah won the title of Miss Sophomore in her school pageant at Dutch Fork High School, and also got her restricted driver's license! Ross is an amazing little guitar player. He continues to study with Jerry Sims and has formed his own band, Sound Smashers. As I am enjoying my time "off the road" during this slower travel season, one of the highlights for me is being able to be in our home church on Sunday mornings to see Hannah sing and Ross play guitar as they help lead worship during the Student Ministries Sunday School hour.
Jennifer continues to be such a joy to work with, and she is busy filling up the rest of the 2009 calendar, and is booking well into 2010. Please keep me in mind should your church have a summer concert series as this is the slowest time of all for ministries like mine. We would consider it a privilege to offer your church a simple love offering concert during the summer.
Thanks for allowing me to catch up with you. Please feel free to take a moment to write us back and let us know what is going on in your life and family. Every month Jennifer and I enjoy hearing back from folks, so drop us a line if you get a chance!
Remember, Jeremiah 29:11 is God's promise to you today, "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope.' " No matter what your circumstances, He promises hope for today, and a future that is secure.
