I wanted to send you a brief reminder that my family's story will be featured on the Investigation Discovery Channel's upcoming episode of On the Case with Paula Zahn, entitled "One Month of Terror: After abducting a 17 year old girl in front of her home, her kidnapper taunts the family with phone calls and disturbing letters. But a tiny mistake will eventually lead police to his door." It will be airing Sunday evening (February 24th) at 10:00pm EST and Monday morning (February 25th) at 1:00am EST (please be sure to check your local listings). The interview will feature the story of the tragic 1985 kidnapping and murder of my younger sister Shari as well as my family's journey of faith and forgiveness. My brother Robert will also be featured in this interview.
I recounted the entire story in my book Grace So Amazing. CBS produced a made-for-TV feature television film in 1991 entitled "Nightmare in Columbia County" that was based on my family's story also and aired for many years on the The Lifetime Network. Our story has also been featured in Readers Digest and FBI Profiler among other media and television outlets. However, it has been a little while since a television network has picked up our family's story. I am particularly thankful for the opportunity to have been able to share with Paula Zahn the work that God has done in my life as I have worked through issues of forgiveness and letting go of the past, striving to live out the words Shari wrote in her Last Will and Testament letter; "Do not let this ruin your lives."
My family and I will be seeing this for the first time right along with you as it airs, and have trusted it will be all God has intended it to be in sharing our journey of faith in the midst of deep tragedy. My prayer is that He will continue to use our story for good, as He already has, and especially on Sunday night to those watching.
