Monday was my birthday, and today I am overflowing with gratitude for all the Lord has done. Age has never bothered me, as I truly see each year as a gift from the Lord and know that if He has me here for another one, there is purpose in it. Psalm 118:24 says, "This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." The Message says it this way, "This is the very day God acted - let us celebrate and be festive!" I LOVE that, don't you? I feel like I have lived a lot of life in the years God has given me so far, and know that with each day, it is His grace in me that makes this journey a celebration.
My precious children surprised me Monday night by taking me out and treating me to dinner at Macaroni Grill, showering me with gifts & cards that they had chosen and purchased all on their own. As I saw the joy on their faces from blessing their Mama so, I couldn't stop the tears. I am so full of gratitude to see the people they are becoming. Yesterday morning I just had to choose to sit in my quiet time chair, with coffee, Bible, and prayer journal, feeling the need to make sure I always remember this birthday. I hope they will read one day when I am gone, how much they blessed me with their selfless sacrifices for me.
It has been a very busy January through March, and I am enjoying a few weeks "off" before hitting the road again. March had me in Oregon again, seeing the beautiful west coast for the first time in my life, and once again falling more in love with my precious sisters in Christ on the other side of our country at Salem Heights Church . Then I also shared a concert to close out the weekend at Rock Harbor Church in Sherwood, OR. The rest of the month I traveled around South Carolina and loved being with the people of my home state, as well. It was a very special time of ministry and fellowship, giving me a glimpse of what heaven is going to be like one day, as we worshipped and focused on the Word of God together. This month I am staying at home more than usual, and am thankful to enjoy a few weekends at home with my children before heading to Pine Hill Friends Meeting for a women's event and Sunday concert in Ararat, NC April 16-17, and then back to be with one of my favorite churches, Sagemont Church in Houston, TX for their Ladies' Night Out.
Production on my upcoming CD "This Far" is underway, and Urgent Records' producer Phillip Sandifer has said he hopes to have a June release. We will keep you posted on this, as I can hardly wait to share the four new songs we recorded that will be included with the 12 favorites from my earlier Urgent projects "How Far", "Canopy" and "A Moment Alone." One of the songs I wrote, entitled "Watching My Heart," is especially timely at this season of my life. The words to the chorus say, "I'm watching my heart walk around this room. I see it leaving way too soon. I can no longer pretend. And it hurts more each day, as they grow away. It's been a blessing to me, but it's hard watching my heart." The bridge of the song says, "You grew them three steps ahead, Lord, with just two steps back. A bit too much gray for me, when I needed more white and black. But they've become so beautiful from what I can see. I'm watching my heart, they seem more like You to me." 3 John 4 expresses my heart, "I have no greater joy that to hear that my children are walking in the truth." I am deeply grateful.
On the home front, Spring Break for us will be April 18-24 and I'm looking forward to that time of much-needed rest for us all. Ross will be playing guitar with the band Hi-Jacked here in town for one of their local shows on April 15th, and I am so looking forward to seeing him rock out once more. It is also good to be home to see Hannah lead worship at our home church in Student Ministries at First Baptist of Columbia. I am so excited to share with you that Hannah will be attending Charleston Southern University in Charleston, SC in the fall. She, Ross, and I went to CSU this past weekend for Premiere Day, and it is clear that this is where the Lord wants her to go. She will major in a brand new major being offered this coming year, Music in Worship Leadership. My prayer has been not only for God's provision for the expense of college, but mostly for His clear guidance and direction, as I truly want her to be where He wants her. I am thankful that He has provided scholarships for her there through her grades, class rank, SAT scores, and a music scholarship. Though it is a bittersweet thought that she will be moving there in August, I have such a peace in knowing that she is following God's will for her life, and there is no other place that I want her to be.
Thank you for taking the time out of your life to be updated on my ministry and family. I always love to hear back from you to know how you are and what is going on in your life, as well. Your prayers, friendship, encouragement and support are vital to both Jennifer and me. We are currently spending these weeks while I am home hunkering down and trying to finalize the summer and fall schedule. I would love to come and share a love-offering concert in your church this summer, so please let us know if there is a date that would work for you. As always, my up-to-date schedule can be found on my website at www.dawnsmithjordan.com. We hope to hear from you!
