Jennifer here once again for JordanMinistries and we're heading into OCTOBER!! Autumn is Dawn's and my favorite time of year. For our family, my first loaf of Pumpkin Bread is always the "official" sign that fall has arrived. Yesterday was cool and rainy and it didn't take too long for my kids to convince me it was Pumpkin Bread time! :) Yummy! The smell of cinnamon and cloves is still wafting through the house.
September has been a little slower for JordanMinistries though the pace picked up for Dawn the past two weeks with three events and that at a time when I was on vacation. Dawn and the Jordan Ministries Board were so gracious to give me a week of vacation during the year even though I only work part-time. My mother-in-law surprised us by giving us a week in her timeshare so last week we packed up and headed to Surfside, SC for a week - the first real vacation in a very, very long time! It was much needed too. Dawn asked me to share some brief impressions from this past week that I shared with her. They included:
- Absolutely perfect weather the entire week - it didn't rain until we pulled back into Columbia
- several rounds of mini golf and some wonderful seafood
- watching a bunch of "Road to Avonlea" DVD's that I got from the library (our "soundtrack" for the week)
- swimming around the lazy river to tropical elevator music and "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy"
- playing several rounds of Scrabble (and I'm still the reigning Scrabble Queen at this time)
- Finding some fantastic deals at Tanger and visiting Barefoot landing
The kids enjoyed the water, sun and sand and slept really well the entire week. Reid and I were able to each take some time off alone to walk on the beach and pray and have some heart-to-heart conversations with our Heavenly Father. While walking I remembered something I recently heard Sinclair Ferguson say in a sermon. He reminded us that for those who do not have a personal relationship with God, when hard times hit, their first instinct is to simply cry out to God for help. But for those of us who have come to know Jesus personally, when those hard times hit, we cry out to our Father for help! What a tremendous thought to know that the God of Heaven and Earth calls me His CHILD and that I call Him Abba Father! And as my Father He gives me a ready invitation to sit down with Him and pour out all my troubles and entrust Him with them. I was also reminded that in Jesus, all of God's promises to me are "Amen," which means "so be it." If God didn't withhold His own Son as a gift, why would I even begin to think that He would withhold anything else that He knows is best for me?
2. Corinthians 1:20- For all the promises of God find their Yes (or Amen) in him (Jesus). That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory." "
Romans 8:32 - "He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?"
These are precious promises indeed and their reminder a breath of fresh air to my soul this past week.
Dawn is going to update you all on some exciting news going on here:
September was a wonderful month, and I am so grateful for some special time with my family. Labor Day weekend we headed to Garden City Beach for some much-needed down time together. Then I was able to go hear both of my children perform the following weekends, which was the highlight of the month for this mama...Ross played guitar with a professional band in town as a part of their show, and Hannah in her first solo show at Oktoberfest in Lexington.
The exciting news for TODAY is that Hannah's debut CD, "Shine" has arrived! The project features 5 of Hannah's original songs, as well as her on lead vocals, background vocals, acoustic guitar, keyboard and piano. "Shine", "Fairytale Ending", "Dance in the Rain", "That Other Girl" and "Waiting on the Ground" are the song titles. You can order your "pre-release" copy via the mail by sending a check to Dawn Smith Jordan Ministries at 736-D St. Andrews Rd. #179, Columbia, SC 29210 - or we will have it available online at www.dawnsmithjordan.comat the beginning of October as well. The cost is $5 per CD plus $3 S&H per order. You could go ahead and knock out some Christmas shopping with multiple orders! On October 13th Hannah will be officially releasing the CD at FirstBaptistChurch of Columbia, SC (our home church) in a release party concert from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the EstepFamilyLifeCenter. Come and bring a friend if you are in the area as this is an outreach event. Hannah will be performing with a band, there will be other area bands performing, as well, so it is going to be a blast!
October Ministry Events:
In September I was blessed to be in some incredible churches in Brunswick, GA, Newberry, SC, and Belmont, NC. In October I am looking forward to sticking closer to home for most of the month, getting to see Hannah play soccer, having Ross here a few weekends, and worshipping in my home church. October 1st-3rd I am serving with our Student Ministries' Fall Retreat as an adult leader and also hosting the senior girls here in our home. I love being a part of this weekend every year. October 5th I will be in town at Pine Bluff Baptist Church where Hannah will be joining me, then head to Hickory, NC to be at Mountain View Baptist Church on the 10th. On October 31st I will be at CrossgateBaptistChurch in Seneca, SC.
Hannah will be performing on the 13th at her release party, the 23rd for an Evening of Stars in Darlington, SC, and on the 31st at the Fall Festival here in Columbia at First Baptist, as well as leading worship with the Student Ministries band at First Baptist every Sunday morning. Come see us if you are in the area!
So, as you can see we have some fun things going on here. As God brings Dawn and JordanMinistries to mind, please continue to pray for us. And visit Dawn on her Facebook page (found under DAWN SMITH JORDAN) as well and leave a comment. She truly enjoys hearing from you all! Thank you so very much for all your support.
