Summer vacation is officially starting this week for my children, and I am looking so forward to having them both out of school and home for the next 3 months. As I sit here in the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport waiting on my next flight (which is delayed) to Alexandria, LA where I will be in ministry at Old Bethel Baptist Church in Clarks, LA this weekend, I thought I'd get a jump-start on this month's ministry newsletter while I had the chance.
Last night I had the privilege of watching my 9 piano students perform in their end-of-the-year recital, and I was so very grateful that the Lord has allowed these precious young people to come into my life and music studio each Wednesday. The parents and students surprised me with the most beautiful framed Scripture from Colossians 3:16-17, which says, "Let the Word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father."
My friend Melissa Bird who also serves on the Jordan Ministries' Board of Directors touched me by sharing with those in attendance that this Scripture to her epitomizes my life, calling, and ministry. I am both humbled and grateful that the Lord has allowed me to be in places of service for His glory alone. Each of us has been given that opportunity. May we be faithful to seek to live up to the calling He has placed on our lives.
The month of June is going to be very busy, and very exciting. I will be singing tonight at Jennifer's home church, Greenhill Baptist Church in West Columbia, SC. I would love to invite you to come to this ladies' night out event if you also live in our hometown of Columbia, SC. June 5-7 I will be reconnecting with some dear friends that I actually made while living here in Dallas/Fort Worth years earlier, that now serve as the Minister of Music at First Baptist Church of Tyler, TX. June 10th Hannah and I will be ministering together at First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner, SC, before heading out June 11-16 for the Miss South Carolina Cruise to the Bahamas! I have never been on a cruise, and have always wanted to go. As a result of Hannah's participation in the Miss South Carolina Teen Incentive Program, Hannah was awarded a cruise for being one of the top ad-page-sellers among all of the contestants. Of course this Mama saw it as a wonderful opportunity for us to share in the experience together, thus I have chosen to accompany her. While in Freeport, Bahamas on Sunday, June 13, the 12 contestants that will be cruising have been asked to mentor the G.I.R.L. Club, a church-sponsored club for girls ages 8-13 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, and I have been asked to be a part of their morning worship service, as well.
We will head to Spartanburg, SC for the Miss South Carolina/Miss South Carolina Teen Pageant June 25-July 3rd! The competition dates are June 29 (dress rehearsal open to the public), and June 30-July 3. If you are able to join us, please go to
www.ticketmaster.com to get your tickets. Thank you for your interest and support for Hannah in this journey. We appreciate your prayers for her as she sees this as an amazing opportunity the Lord has allowed in her life, one in which she is striving to honor Him.
The Lord has blessed us with a very busy ministry schedule this summer, and Jennifer is busily finishing up the schedule for the fall and rest of the year, as well as booking into 2011. Should your church have a ladies' night out event, women's conference, special event, Sunday, or even a Christmas event, I would love to be prayerfully considered.
On the home front, it is hard to believe that my Rossman has finished middle school and will be joining Hannah at Dutch Fork High School next year as a freshman, while Hannah will be a senior. Tears come to my eyes as I write those words. It is hard to believe we are in this phase of life already, planning college visits, and looking to the next season that is just around the corner. For now, I will milk each day for all it's worth with these precious ones that the Lord has blessed me with.
Thank you for once again allowing me to come into your home for these few moments. I pray that you and your family find some time over the slower summer months to enjoy some time together, vacationing, and making precious memories.
For His glory alone,
Dawn
