I had to say goodbye to my beloved Cookie last month, one of the hardest decisions and things I’ve ever had to do. He was my loyal, faithful, loving, precious companion, protector and friend for 14 1/2 years. When my mother was on her deathbed, we had to put our previous dog down. Ross had never had his own pet, so in the midst of such deep heartache, Hannah, Ross and I went to Pets Inc. and he picked him out for us as his own. Oh how I loved this gentle giant. I’m so thankful for all the years he was by my side, and will forever be in my heart. My dear friend Sharon went with me and we loved on him in that room, Ross with us on FaceTime, his head in my lap until he took his last breath and was finally at peace.
While I miss him so much and still can’t talk about him without the tears flowing, I would not trade anything for all the unconditional love, laughter, and joy he brought into our lives and home. The Lord was gracious to give us 6 more weeks together before it became obvious he needed me to help him go. Zoey and I miss him terribly, as he was not just a dog, he was family. There will never be another like him to me. There was no finer, sweeter, easier, more unselfish, happier dog in all the world. I’m thankful today that he is no longer struggling or hurting and is happy, running free again, and I will see him again in heaven. We miss you, Cookie, and will always be grateful for the love you gave to us all.
My beloved Cookie, the “Christian dog,” the smiling dog, aka Cookie Monster. Your heart-shaped face and smile will forever bring my heart gratitude and joy until I wrap my arms around you. Thank you for loving us so well. My life is forever sweeter because you were in it.
My friend Sharon said it so well: “What He spoke specifically to me: “Though (Jeremiah’s -their beloved dog) body cannot live forever, the unconditional and devoted love that has endeared him to you will never die for that is My love channeled through him to you.” From there it was very easy for me to draw the conclusion of something I’d suspected all along-that they are, indeed, angels in disguise.” A Facebook friend said it simply, too, when she wrote: dog spelled backwards is God.
Love is always costly, but so well worth it. So I will be heading to the pet shelters and begin the search for the next family member that needs a loving fur-ever home. Life and loss go hand in hand, but the love always must continue. Until heaven, let’s seek to give and receive it, friends. Thank you for your prayers, love, and friendship. My life is so much richer because of each and every one of you.
Ministry at a Glance:
While the month of May was a little quieter on the ministry front, my personal life was running in full speed so I welcomed the slower pace only having four ministry events. Friday May 4th, I was blessed to be with New Life Baptist Church in Union, SC for their Ladies' Night Out. Mother's Day weekend (May 12th - 13th) I returned to Hopewell Baptist Church in Seneca, SC. Saturday was their Night to Honor Women and on Sunday I was delighted to do special music during their morning service especially to honor the mothers. On Sunday, May 20th I was in Ronda, NC at Pleasant Grove Baptist for their Women's Day service.
And kicking off the month of June, I was thrilled to fly to New York Friday, June 1st. The LawwwngIsland area to be exact. Oh how they had fun with my accent, and me theirs! On Saturday, June 2nd I was with Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle in the morning and Dix Hills Evangelical Free Church in the evening. At Smithtown I spoke/sang on "Pressing On in the Midst..." for their Women's Spring Event. Woman after woman spoke to me afterward sharing how the Lord had specifically spoken to them, words they needed to hear that very day, and it reminded me of how the Lord puts us where He can use us "for such a time as this." One woman said that Saturday was literally a life-changing experience for her and she would never be the same. As she shared how she had almost not come, I told her how I had made the commitment to be with this church months ago before realizing my Hannah was going to be in Clayton's brother's wedding that very night, and I had asked the Lord to confirm I had made the right decision to keep my commitment to that church, while missing the time with family and friends. Oh how He did just that. Saturday evening I shared a concert at Dix Hills for their Saturday Night Out church wide event. It was a wonderful time in the Lord, and I am overjoyed to say I left there with 2 new sister friends, Diane Zarlengo and Beth Vallone. They have already invited me back for future events in 2019 and I cannot wait to join them again!
With only two more concerts for the rest of June on the ministry calendar, I welcome the rest. What a busy spring travel ministry season it has been, and not having to pack a suitcase again until July is a welcome reprieve.
September 13-16 I will be speaking at the Praise & Worship Weekend Ladies Retreat being held at the Laguna Beach Christian Retreat in Panama City Beach, FL. I would love for you to come down and join me there. If you are interested in attending, please call the Serendipity Boutique at 352-671-3288.
Pastors, Worship Leaders, Women's Ministry Leaders, as you are looking ahead to your 2018 and 2019 ministry calendars, I would be honored to be invited to come and share my ministry as a part of yours as we partner together to reach people with the Good News of the Gospel. www.dawnsmithjordan.com

On the Homefront:
Grateful for time with family and friends in May...got to go see my nephew Birkes play in his final soccer game and score a goal! This was the perfect way to spend the first day without my beloved Cookie. The first Sunday I had off in a while, there was only one place this mama wanted to be. So to Charleston I went for the day to see my Hannah lead worship and Clayton run sound at Newspring Church. It did my heart such good to get to see them in person, hug them, and visit with them and the grand dogs.
