More About Dawn
Continuing to be seen on the Billy Graham Classics telecast (from her original appearance on the 1986 South Carolina Billy Graham Crusade), Dawn has also appeared on the ACTS Network, the 700 Club, In Touch Ministries, she performed with Pope John Paul II's SC appearance, Christian Cable Video networks and Contemporary Christian radio stations nationwide. Most recently she shared her testimony at the 2005 Southern Baptist Convention. Dawn was featured in the fall of 2006 on TLC 's "What Not to Wear with Stacie Lundon" on the brand new pilot, "Ms. Pageant Rewind," where she re-competed with two other women from the 1986 Miss South Carolina Pageant, and won again! It continues to air on TLC. She has also had the privilege of opening for other Christian artists including Larnelle Harris, New Song, The Imperials, Phillips, Craig and Dean, First Call, Billy Crockett and Babbie Mason, she performed the duet, "I've Just Seen Jesus" live with Larnelle Harris, and the charting duet, "Promise of Love", with Jerome Olds on her 1996 album, "Canopy." The music video of the same aired nationally. Dawn has ministered for over twenty years throughout the United States, Canada, and the Cayman Islands.
Dawn continues to walk in the grace of which she sings and speaks. In 1997, due to circumstances not of her own choosing, Dawn became a single mother. From the pit of despair came a deeper trust in the Lord and a new ministry to those facing the same situation. Forgiveness, once again, played a vital role in Dawn's ability to find healing and hope.
Dawn's availability includes a concert ministry, but also sharing special music, leading worship for retreats or conferences, and/or speaking. As a keynote speaker/singer, Dawn's messages include "Grace Still Amazing" (2 Cor. 12:9), "How Far Must Forgiveness Go?" (Eph. 4:32), and others, and she speaks with a solid Biblical foundation, and an honest transparency that is real. God has given her a unique ability to communicate His truth in a moving way, as a living, joyful testimony, even from the deepest of unexpected heartaches. Dawn also invites church choirs to join her in her Timeless Hymns Concerts as well as her Christmas concerts, if they are interested in doing so.
Dawn's life verse and commitment are found in Prov. 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths."
As a vocalist/worship leader at women's ministry events, Dawn has shared the platform with many of today's leading speakers, including Beth Moore, Becky Tirabassi, Kay Arthur, Marge Caldwell, Jeannette Clift George, Dorie Van Stone, Anne Graham Lotz and Patsy Clairmont.
As a part of the promotion for the movie based on Dawn's life story, "Nightmare in Columbia County", Dawn appeared on the Maury Povich Show, as well as sharing her music ministry at the conclusion of the movie with a concert clip of the song she wrote in Shari's memory, "Sister." Her story also appeared in the February, 1989 issue of Reader's Digest, as well as numerous other Christian publications, and she recently reappeared on the 700 Club, and shared her story of forgiveness on American Journal. In October of 1999, her story was featured on "The FBI Files" on the Discovery Network.
Dawn appeared on "On the Case With Paula Zahn" - on the Investigation Discovery Network in January 2014, as the story of her sister's case, her family's faith and ultimate forgiveness of her murderer was featured. She has also published two articles in the January and February 2014 issues of Lifeway's Journey Magazine.
Her song, "How Far", came out of the work God did in Dawn's life, bringing her to the point of forgiving her sister's murderer. Through song and testimony, Dawn's story of the sufficiency of God's grace and forgiveness has been used by God to minister to thousands for over a decade.
Dawn is the mother of 2 children, Hannah, a senior Veterinary Science/Equine Business major at Clemson University, and Ross, a freshman Bachelor of Arts major at Midlands Technical College. They make their home in Columbia, SC. As an empty-nester, she enjoys life at home with her beloved dog Cookie, her kitten Zoey, eating as much sushi as she can, and then working it off in her Zumba class twice a week. She loves the beach, to laugh, read, and write. Through her brand new blog, “Amazing Grace Notes”, she seeks to share a word of hope to the hopeless, encouragement to the weary, and an eternal perspective in it all. She considers it a great privilege to share her music and ministry out of the story God is weaving into her life.
